OBDAssistant collects anonymized vehicle diagnostic data to power its features. We do not collect VINs, license plates, precise GPS locations, or personally identifiable information. Your diagnostic data is yours — and you can request its deletion at any time.
When you use the app, we collect diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), sensor readings (e.g., RPM, coolant temperature, fuel trims), and performance metrics. This data is associated with a random device identifier — not your personal identity.
We collect basic device metadata including Android version, screen resolution, and app version to ensure compatibility and improve the user experience.
If you grant location permission, we collect your coarse region only (city-level) — never your precise GPS coordinates. This enables regional fault pattern analysis in the OBD Index.
Your diagnostic data powers core app features: AI-powered fault analysis, live sensor dashboards, performance testing, and personalized repair suggestions.
Anonymized diagnostic data is aggregated to power the public OBD Index — a global view of vehicle health trends. Individual vehicles cannot be identified in the index. We apply k-anonymity protections (minimum group size of 50 vehicles per data cell) to prevent re-identification.
Aggregated sensor patterns train our machine learning models to predict component failures before they happen. These models improve with scale but never expose individual vehicle data.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Diagnostic data may be shared in the following limited circumstances:
OBDAssistant uses the following third-party services:
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies.
Diagnostic session data is retained for up to 24 months to support predictive model training. You may request deletion of all data associated with your device identifier at any time by contacting us at obd2assistant.app@gmail.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
We protect your data using industry-standard encryption (TLS 1.3 in transit), secure cloud infrastructure, and role-based access controls. No system is 100% secure, but we continuously monitor and improve our security practices.
OBDAssistant is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app and on this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
